Sung largely in Zulu, Ipasi is Jabulile Majola's debut album in an alternative vein, built on acoustic guitar, piano and cello alongside choir, brass and warm strings. It moves between soulful, Sunday-morning calm and brighter, more energetic passages, carrying songs of heartbreak, of men leaving home to earn a living, and of gratitude to the people who listen. Named for the Zulu word close to "ID document", the record traces Majola's own growth and changing sense of himself.
